We have all experienced it. You get the costumes ready, schedule the dinner, have backup jackets/the wagon/umbrella, and then a whole street of trick or treating where nobody answers… this is not exactly a low stakes activity even though Halloween is a lighthearted holiday.
I made a list of safer and more organized places to take your kids trick or treating, hopefully for a better experience with more Halloween energy! Will you please let me know if you hear of another party I should add to this list?

Vancouver: organized business district events
- Mount Pleasant "Safe Spot Trick-or-Treat," Main St and 14th Ave. Live music, cotton candy, participating shops marked with an orange pumpkin.
Typically: moves around. Landed on Oct 31 in 2021 but was as early as Oct 14 in 2023. Confirm the date each year rather than assuming Halloween itself.
- Yaletown Trick-or-Treat Route, Homer St to Pacific Blvd. Organized by the Yaletown BIA, ends at the Roundhouse Halloween Carnival.
Typically: always October 31, regardless of day of week.
- Great Marpole Trick-or-Treat, Granville St between W 63rd and 71st. Early evening, participating shops.
Typically: always October 31.
- Dunbar Village Trick-or-Treat. Billed as non-scary and toddler friendly, runs through all three areas of Dunbar Village.
Typically: the Saturday before Halloween (was Oct 25 in 2025).
- Kids Market, Granville Island. Indoor, free while supplies last, with face painting and a photo booth.
Typically: the Saturday or Sunday before Halloween, not Oct 31 itself.
North Vancouver
- Lower Lonsdale / Shipyards Trick-or-Treat — City of North Vancouver and the Shipyards District team up, over 60 participating businesses along Lonsdale, live music, kids’ activities, Oct 31 3:30–5:30pm
Burnaby
- Halloween on the Heights, Hastings St, Burnaby Heights. Costumed characters and street performers.
Typically: always October 31.
- Metropolis at Metrotown "Fall Fun at the Met." Mall wide, runs through most of October, plus a dedicated trick-or-treat afternoon on Halloween itself.
Typically: the month-long activities start mid-September, but the actual trick-or-treat afternoon is always October 31.
- Lougheed Town Centre "Halloween Hunt." Pick up a Halloween "boo-k" at Guest Services and follow it through the mall for tricks, then a sticker and treat at the end.
Typically: runs as a multi-week window through most of October, not a single day.
- Pumpkins After Dark, Swangard Stadium. Ticketed evening walk through glowing jack-o-lantern displays, running most of October.
Typically: multi-week window starting in early October and running through Halloween.
Richmond
- Halloween Hoot, Richmond Nature Park. Free, family-friendly outdoor walk along the Pond Trail with inflatables, nature-inspired art installations, and a gravel pumpkin patch. Runs mid to late October, rain or shine.
Typically: a consistent roughly ten-day window in the back half of October that wraps up a few days before Halloween. Oct 19-27 in 2024, Oct 18-29 in 2025. It never runs through Halloween night itself.
- Minoru Park fireworks. Evening event on October 31.
Typically: always October 31.
Delta
- The Great Pumpkin Carve, across Tsawwassen, Ladner, and North Delta. Glowing carved pumpkin displays, live entertainment, food trucks, and family activities celebrating the pumpkin harvest. Confirmed for October 24 to 25, 2026.
Typically: the weekend before Halloween.
- Fright Fest, Ladner Community Centre. Runs a no-scare "Show & Tell" night for little ones as well as a full haunted house night for those who want more of a scare, plus story time, crafts, and treats.
Typically: a weeknight in the last week of October, not tied to a specific weekday or to Halloween itself. Has landed anywhere from Oct 25 to Oct 29 in past years.
- Trick-or-treat at Tsawwassen Town Centre. Indoor mall trick-or-treating on Halloween afternoon.
Typically: always October 31.
Surrey
- Spooktacular Newton. Surrey's only free Halloween street festival, with trick-or-treating, mini golf, a kids' zone, face painting, food trucks, and a haunted train.
Typically: always the Saturday before Halloween. Oct 28 in 2023, Oct 26 in 2024, Oct 25 in 2025.
- Surrey Treat Accessibly Halloween Village, Newton. A daytime, sensory-friendly, fully accessible house-to-house trick-or-treat experience for kids with and without disabilities, with a DJ, magicians, and costumed performers.
Typically: the Saturday before Halloween, same weekend as Spooktacular Newton.
- BOO-seum Halloween Party, Museum of Surrey. Free, with Halloween crafts, a photo booth, a costume parade, and spooky performances.
Typically: the Saturday before Halloween.
- Guildford Town Centre Maze of Monsters. Worth flagging that this one can be a bit much for kids under 5.
Typically: runs as a multi-week window through most of October, not a single day.
Coquitlam
- BOOchanan Square Halloween Trick or Treat Party. Hosted by Coquitlam RCMP with decorated tents, candy, and swag from community partners.
Typically: always October 31, every year since it started.
- Coquitlam Centre trick-or-treat weekend. Indoor, stations around the mall for kids 12 and under.
Typically: the weekend before Halloween.
- Heritage Halloween, Mackin House. Crafts, candy, face painting, and a haunted train caboose.
Typically: the Saturday before Halloween.
Langley
- Spooktacular Langley. Trick-or-treating through the downtown core on Halloween afternoon.
Typically: always October 31.
- Willowbrook Shopping Centre trick-or-treat. Grab a treat tote at the concierge desk, then follow balloons to participating stores.
Typically: always October 31.
- Whimsic Alley Halloween house. A Harry Potter themed walkthrough that's been running for years, donation based, proceeds to the Langley Food Bank.
Typically: runs several nights in the last week of October plus Halloween night itself, not a single date. Not enough public past-year data to say the exact nights will repeat, so check closer to the date.
Abbotsford
- Trick or treat in historic downtown Abbotsford. Local merchants hand out candy along Essendene Ave and nearby streets.
Typically: always October 31.
- Halloween Howl, Abbotsford Recreation Centre. Crafts, games, a photo area, and a bouncy castle.
Typically: always October 31.
- Trick or Treat at Taves Family Farms. Pumpkin patch setting with a corn maze and jumping pillows alongside the candy.
Typically: the weekend before Halloween. Not enough public past-year data to confirm this repeats exactly, so check the farm's page closer to the date.
Busy neighborhood streets in Vancouver (informal, just lots of decorated houses and candy, bring your own energy)
- Hastings-Sunrise: 2400 to 2900 Trinity Street
- Kitsilano: W 13th to 15th Ave between Collingwood and Macdonald
- Dunbar-Southlands: streets off Dunbar St, W 16th to SW Marine Dr
- Douglas Park: Oak to Cambie, 16th to King Edward
- Riley Park: Cambie to Main, north of Queen Elizabeth Park
- Kerrisdale: off West Blvd, 33rd to 49th
- Arbutus Ridge: off Arbutus St, 16th to King Edward
- West Point Grey: off 16th, 10th, and 4th Ave
- Renfrew-Collingwood: between Nanaimo St and Boundary Rd, 29th to 41st
- East Van "creative crescent": Commercial Dr area, between Kitchener and Venables
New Westminster, Queens Park — informal, but it’s one of the most famous trick-or-treat neighborhoods in the whole region, right up there with Douglas Park in Vancouver, per CBC’s yearly “treat count” coverage
Typically: these are just decorated homes rather than an organized event, so they only happen on the actual evening of October 31.

A note on all the above: most listed times are last year's, I can’t be confirming exact 2026 dates and hours until cities and malls post them, usually early to mid October. Genuine apologies if it doesn’t happen on this article though!!! Much of this happens on socials only and it’s a lot to keep track of.
The general rule of thumb for parents: city-run daytime “safe” events (RCMP tents, mall trick-or-treats, BIA street festivals) tend to anchor either to Oct 31 exactly or the Saturday right before it, while multi-day drop-in things like Halloween Hoot always finish before the 31st rather than on it.
